1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko/SC 427 – Revell

yenkocamaro_j The Yenko ’69 Camaro kit is pretty rare these days and the purchase price is slightly steep but oh man it is worth it. It’s a re-produced version of a much older Revell kit(from the late 1990s and was molded entirely in yellow), the kit got a very brief revival as a Motor City Muscle kit in 2009, this one being produced in white plastic that feels tougher and has much more visible details on it, such as the Chevrolet logos and the Camaro logos on the sides and back.

I figured I’d go all in with this one and attempt to wire up the engine and add some extra decals such for stuff like lettered tires and interior dial decals, so keep in mind that those things aren’t part of the base kit. What is however are the seat decals, Yenko/SC side and hood stripes in both black and white and all feel really comfortable to use.

Unique to this kit(and the Yenko Camaro in general) is the massive L72 427ci. V8 engine that’s been molded to great detail, as well as the mag wheels and such. You also get a choice between ’69 SS taillights and the ’69 Z-28 taillights, likely due to the kit’s mold being mostly that of the 1969 Z-28 Camaro kit that Revell produced before.

The only two little downsides to this kit are the very simplistic interior, despite the mold quality there’s hardly a way of showing it off, other kits usually would’ve had some dial decals with the kit but sadly this one doesn’t. The other downside is that the wheel prongs are just about useless, you simply have to glue the wheels onto them for them to stay on. But that’s it, the rest of the kit is downright amazing.

The instructions for the parts and painting are crystal clear and all the parts fit together without a hassle, no squeezing or forcing stuff in place.

As a last little note, it’s worth mentioning that Revell recently announced that they’re gonna do another re-issue of this kit under the Special Edition line(as of writing this in April 2016) somewhere in the third quarter of 2016. It’ll likely have more decals and more parts to work with so it may be worth waiting for that kit instead, but that being said, getting this one right now isn’t a bad idea either, it’s still a fantastic kit with a beautiful result once you’ve got it done.
