1970 Dodge Challenger R/T – Revell

Fantastic kit through and through, that would be the short version. The longer? Well, first I should mention that this kit as mentioned on the box is a 2 in 1 kit, it comes with the 383 R/T(not the R/T Magnum) version and the 340 T/A Six Pack. If you saw the 1/24 scale 1970 Challenger by Revell, skip that one and buy this one instead, this one’s a lot better hands down.

It’s a really well designed kit, with large stable ports to slide the parts into, which in turn makes putting most of the car together a breeze. Also, for some reason with this kit in particular the plastic is a hell of a lot more sturdy and doesn’t snap easily. Heck even the box got a nicer quality touch than usual to it with this nice glaze over the cardboard, it’s nice that everything about this kit just bleeds extra detail.

On the exterior, the molding quality is superb. There’s no panel gaps, the hood fits like a glove, the grille and both the front and rear valance fit into the body perfectly. The interior detail is great and molded amazingly. I mean, right down to the stitching detail of the front seats and the small buttons on the dash.

Engine detail is also excellent, tried to wire the engine block up to the distributor but ended up accidentally ruining it so had to do some creative stuff, it doesn’t look quite as pretty but my shoddy work doesn’t mean it’snot possible to do it right!

The downsides of this kit?

There’s hardly any. The decal instructions are kinda messed up/wrong and are missing the R/T decals for on the hood. I had some issue with the exhaust system for the R/T version, the holes for the pipes on the rear end weren’t actually molded correctly so had to poke holes and desperately squeeze them in, so now I have these weirdly positioned exhaust tips. The other pretty big downside that might not be exclusive to me is that the rods the wheels are meant to go on are far, far too big. I mean even with hollowing the holes in the rim twice their original size, they hardly stayed on. It took massive amounts of glue and some molten plastic to cement them onto the rods and have them sit correctly.

But despite that? It’s a fantastic model, the instructions are crystal clear aside from the decal errors on the last page, it fit together like a perfect little puzzle and it looks absolutely beautiful in the end.
