1991 GMC Syclone – Revell

gmc9A very old kit by Revell that’s also surprisingly detailed, puts many of their current models to shame in terms of detail and just how well the whole thing fits together. It’s nearly 140 pieces, most of which are engine bits. The whole kit’s molded in satin and matte black, with the exclusions of the clear and chrome parts, so even painting the whole thing isn’t a necessity. The most painting I had to do was on the interior and around 10 pieces in the engine. Also the GMC logo, indicators and reverse lights need to be painted for the full exterior effect but still, not a lot of painting effort needed to still make this a beautiful model.GMC_new (4)

I spend a lot of time painting the interior making it look pretty much as close as the real ’91 Syclone’s redline gray/black interior as I could manage, it involved a ton of steady hand stuff but luckily the molding quality is so high that even the seat-lining that needed to be red was properly molded.

It’s also got a few moving parts, the hood can be opened, the wheels spin freely without dropping off(looking at the newer kits, the wheels never wanna stick onto their struts), GMC_new (2)you can also drop the tailgate. Also comes with an optional tarp for the bed.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that this is technically a 2-in-1 kit, as of course the GMC Syclone’s based off the Sonoma Club Cab, you can just not fit the bodykit of the Syclone and have a Sonoma instead. AMT makes a 1/25 Sonoma kit if you desire the wheels and decals of the ’92 Sonoma but the shorter bed of the Syclone and Revell’s excellent detailed engine.
